History

Founded in 1977 by ten leading overseas bankers in Hong Kong, the Club has changed significantly over the years, adapting to the changing nature of Hong Kong’s banking industry. Since opening our doors in 1981, our membership has grown to include most of the city’s major banks and many independent financial professionals. In December 1995, the Club formally changed its name from The Hong Kong Overseas Bankers Club to The Hong Kong Bankers Club, reflecting its internationalising process. With over two thousand Members today, our Club is one of the major pivots of Hong Kong’s financial and business community.

Our Committee was originally created with representatives of banks from seven geographical areas, and now incorporates a very diverse and international membership. The Club continues to dedicate to people with business on their minds.
